Team Member recipe approved for USDA’s Child Nutrition Recipe Box

Whitsons is proud to announce the USDA approval of a team-member developed recipe from Southern York County School District, PA. The Butternut Muffin recipe, created by Chef Matt Spears with the support of General Manager Helen Heidler, will be added to the USDA’s Child Nutrition Recipe Box and the Pennsylvania Harvest of the Month websites.
 
Child Nutrition Recipe Box (CNRB) provides Child Nutrition Program operators with recipes that are standardized to provide meal pattern crediting information for meal pattern components. Recipes that meet the USDA’s standards must also include legumes, whole grains, and vegetables from the vegetable subgroups including dark green, red, and orange vegetables.
 
The item developed by Heidler and Spears credits as a 1 oz. grain and 1/8 cup red/orange vegetable and was developed with funding from USDA’s Team Nutrition Training Grant for School Meal Recipe Development.
