October is for Apples!

It’s fall and apples are now in season! Fall is a great time to start cooking with apples and incorporating this delicious fruit into your diet. Apples have many nutritional benefits, containing many essential vitamins and minerals, fiber and antioxidants. Try our recipe for a tart and tasty apple crumble and turn fall’s best fruit into a delicious dessert.

 

 

 

RECIPE: Fall Apple Crumble

YIELD: 6-8 servings


INGREDIENTS:

Apple Filling:
2 lb. Granny Smith Apples, peeled, cored and cut into thick slices
1 tbsp. flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tbsp. lemon juice
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
 

Topping:
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup flour
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon powder
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
Pinch of salt
 

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a baking dish, combine apple slices, flour, sugar and cinnamon, then pour lemon juice over it. Toss mixture with hands and spread out evenly in baking dish. Place all ingredients for the topping in a bowl. Mix until clumps form, then spread over the apples. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until golden brown. Remove, cover with foil to keep warm and let stand for 15 to 20 minutes, then serve.
